Countdown Has Begun
Six weeks ago, Howard and the owners of the million-dollar house were told that construction would be complete by the end of November.
Didn't quite happen that way.
Now the deadline is December 21st, even though the contractor says a number of small items -- mostly out-of-doors items -- still won't be quite finished by then.
Also, six weeks ago, Howard prepared a checklist of items yet to be done. The same checklist is presented again, this time describing progress or lack thereof. Since Howard's best girl is a wiz with the lists, this one is dedicated to her:
Still need paint and stain on three exterior sides of the house. Two down, one to go.
Still need bamboo floors and porcelain tile floors EVERYWHERE. Tile is done, bamboo not.
Still need interior paint and stain on the first floor. Done.
Still need ceramic tile and slate on bathroom walls. Done.
Still need granite countertops in the kitchen and buffet. Done.
Still need a very cool built-in breakfast nook. Mostly done, still need plastic laminate surface.
Still need light and plumbing fixtures and light switches and outlets. Electrical is done, plumbing is not.
Still need appliances in the kitchen and laundry room. They are still in the garage awaiting install. Told to expect Tuesday, Dec. 12th.
Still need shower enclosures. Not done yet, as there was a slight delay due to required change in glass types.
Still need door and window hardware. About half the doors have hardware, none of the windows yet.
Still need sidewalks and driveways and breezeways and pergola. Sidewalks and driveways, yes. Breezeway and pergola, not yet.
Still need a built-in outdoor BBQ gas grille. The builder started to frame it. Gave it a nice door to storage below to hold the essential and precious grilling tools. The gas grille is stored in the utility room. Looks like a hoss.
Still need lots of landscaping. In progress.

What will Howard do when it's no longer "his" house ?
Howard might be forced to get a life, perhaps?
Actually it will always be Howard's house, though he won't be able to visit unannounced.
Seriously though, Howard has two more projects under contract and in the process of being designed. Plus, he has two large new custom home projects looming off on the horizon -- not under contract yet but larger and potentially more blogworthy than this little 3,600 sf house has been. If just one of those two came to fruition...
