i don't know about the worship without sacrifice point.... the men who hijacked planes and flew them into buildings felt they were sacrificing their lives in fulfillment of the calling their god had laid out for them (worship). truly a violent act. there are those in this country that would go to war (crusade) and sacrifice their children and part of their salaries in worship of their christian god. also a violent act. as an areligious person i find that all worship leads to violence, because it inevitably leads to the "my god is better than yours," point of view. couple that statement with an abandonment of reason and logic, a polar opposite to religion by religion's very nature, and you're going to end up with people who "know" everyone else is wrong, yet with no way to prove it. except by killing them and sending them to hell. "told you so." even in gandhi's religion there is plenty of room for violent acts.

How about power without accountability?

As for the religion thing, areligious ideologies like capitalism and communism have managed more than enough violence on their own.
